Hanging with LB tonight

2004-08-09

What a weekend. First, we had to go to a firm party on Friday. I was so ready to take full advantage of the catering but, as soon as we got there, I felt nauseous. Then, while I was talking to someone, I got a huge hot flash and felt like I was going to faint. My field of vision closed in and I could hear a weird buzzing. I used to pass out all the time when I was younger (in my early 20's) but it has been a long time since that happened. I kept thinking about how, if I dramatically passed out in front of his entire firm, Leo would bring it up about once a week for the rest of my life. I ended up sitting down and the feeling finally passed.

Much like Koko, I too am having dental issues. Unlike Koko, though, a team of dental specialist has not sprung to the ready to help. I broke part of a tooth a while back. The dentist won't fix it until I am in my second trimester (the appt. is still a month away). I was in so much pain on Saturday that I scoured the house, looking for a heating pad to wrap around my head. I never did find it, so I decided to use some hot rollers instead. Unfortunately, they had hair-gripping spikes in them, and I was a little afraid that I'd permanently burn that pattern into my cheek. But it helped.

Favorite quote from the Koko article: "Her teacher, Francine Patterson, was at her side when the anesthesiologist prepared to put her under in the morning, and apparently Koko asked to meet her specialists.
They crowded around her, and Koko, who plays favorites, asked one woman wearing red to come closer. The woman handed her a business card, which Koko promptly ate."

I am going to try that at my next business meeting. Which remind me of another thing that happened this weekend. Shannon has convinced me that, instead of taking maternity leave, I should try for a permanent mental disability leave. I should start off by denying my pregnancy completely, take some time off to have the kid, then come back with the baby and claim it to be my malformed siamese twin. OK, that sounds awful now, but I thought it was hilarious on Saturday.

That could be because of the paint fumes though. We painted the nursery on Saturday. We painted it this color:

OK, that looks like pukey hospital green. I swear it's a nice color, just a little hard to recreate electronically. Maybe the paint was a little more gray?

I'm ditching work a bit early this afternoon to got to a Laura Bush led rally. I have my camera, so - who knows - maybe I'll get some good shots.
