"also was upset over the fact that the women all banded together and decided to only cook four days a week. Come on ladies, it is 1628. You have no rights. You are on this planet only to cook, clean, and make babies." Actually, no one had any formal rights since the Bill of Rights hadn't been written. And, in the early days of American Colonization, women did more than cook, clean, and make babies because with resources being so scarce, work became more egalitarian, not because they were progressive or enlightened, but just for survival sakes. You're right though, that it's quite unlikely that women would have come to a communal decision to *share* household tasks. I'm pretty sure that while women did more typically men's work like building and lugging heavy crap around, men probably didn't cook much. Except in the summer when they had bbq ;) Sorry, but I'm quite anal retentive when it comes to women's studies and history stuff. And yes, I promise I'm reading the novel. I've just had trouble catching with with sleep this week. I'll post to readarama soon.

That's not to say that there wasn't a gendered division of labor, but it wasn't so limited for women. I've got an idea or ten about Colonial House, but let's leave it on the note that I changed the channel. Words like whining and frustrating come to mind. I'll be nice and not say anything disparaging, or have I already? Heh!

But it's the painfully frustrating stuff that makes tv so enjoyable. If you can't say anything snarky, why watch? I mean, I watch Dawson's creek in syndication because it's so utterly and painfully bad.
