Missouri - so far it's not all it's cracked up to be

2003-11-11

My St. Louis trip thus far:

- Got horribly lost in farm country on the way to the plant. Turns out that a mall accross the street from the plant is opeing the day after tomorrow so they changed the name of the street the day before we got there. Hard to follow directions when the street no longer exists.

- On the front door of the plant, engraved in the glass, is a sign which reads:

"No firearms are permitted in the plant for any reason!"

Instead of making me feel safer, it really makes me uncomfortable.

- I slept for about 10 hours last night. Comfy bed.

- I am the oldest auditor here. It's weird because, in my old job, I was the youngest by ten years. I'm only older by a year, but it is odd.

- Auditing for Sarbanes-Oxley is mind-numbing monkey work.

- The Casino we are staying at is, not surprisingly, patronized exclusively by the elderly. The common areas stink like a thousand nursing homes.

Oh my. I had my first Fuddrucker's experience for lunch today. The inside looks like what an airplane hanger would if my dad decoraed it exclusively with items in a garbage dumpsters outside of a dorm. I ordered a salad, thinking it would be the least of the evils on the menu. It came in a dish that was two square feet. The restaurant was filled was very large people eating very large portions. It looked like the stock footage that is run whenver a story involves obesity. The burgers were nearly spherical. Truly, the Fuddrucker corporation should be ashamed of itself.

I tried suggesting to my team that, just maybe, we could eat someplace that was not a chain restaurant. That was shot down immediately. By the guy who brags about having consumed a 44 oz. steak.
